Re: Windows ME Boot Disk Contents
The RAMDRIVE component puts this boot disk in a league of its own. Interesting that Microsoft opted out of the sick web traffic our friend must be getting!

Re: Windows ME Boot Disk Contents
My daughter has a DELL Dimension 2100 Series computer that I can't get to boot. It runs Windows ME and it has a 3.5 Floppy Drive but the only computer in the household that I can access the Internet has no Floppy Drive.
Can a floppy boot diskette be sent to me in some other fashion?
Re: Windows ME Boot Disk Contents
Hi Frank,
You can download a Windows ME bootable CD which will work in your floppy-less Dell. This bootable CD contains the exact same versions of Windows ME that are on the floppy disk. The CDs were created for just this reason!
You can find the bootable CDs here:

Good luck!

Re: Windows ME Boot Disk Contents
Hi,
What is the difference between the disks (images) of the Win ME boot disks with & without RAM drive & when does one use the one with the RAM drive & when to use the boot disk without the RAM drive?
Thanks,
Re: Windows ME Boot Disk Contents
It depends on what you want to do and how much ram you have. If you want to take a little longer at boot up, but have the DOS tools available quicker after that, the RAM drive disk is it. It will take up about 2 megs of ram.
Most of the the same tools are on the non-ram disk, which will boot quicker, but then the tools have to load from the floppy, with command com on the floppy, which is slower,
savvy? hope that helps.

Missing AutoExec file???
Thank you for creating & hosting these ISO images.
However I have downloaded the nonram and the ram version of the WINme boot CDs and burned them both and neither one gives me a DOS prompt on my Sister's Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop. Upon closer inspection I'm seeing that both versions that I burned are lacking any sort of AutoExec file, that's not right ... is it?
This Inspiron has been infuriating. I can't get a DOS prompt no matter what I've tried. When I'm in Windows I can't "Exit to DOS" & when I reboot and hit F8 the only options are normal mode, safe mode and safe mode with network support ... WHERE THE @#$% did the DOS prompt option go?!?!?! It's infuriating. And this is another laptop with CD-ROM only so I need a bootable CD option to force a DOS prompt. I need to format and reinstall this laptop before I go visit my sister tomorrow so her husband can start using this machine, so ...
Any Help Anyone Could Provide me Would be MOST APPRECIATED!
Thank you ...
Re: Missing AutoExec file???
...it's me again...
Just to clarify when I say that the CDs don't give me a DOS prompt what happens is the system loads WinME from the harddrive like normal like there's no CD in the drive.
And before anyone asks, yes ... I've gone into the BIOS to makes sure the CD-ROM drive is on the boot list. The order is:
1: Floppy
2: CDROM
3: HDD
When I stick the Recover Disc from Dell in and boot the machine it asks me if I want to boot from HDD or CD. If I say CD it starts the WinME install but warns me because there's a preexisting install on the drive. It quits to a DOS prompt, but FORMAT isn't on the disc so I can't format the drive.
I noticed FORMAT is only on the nonRAM ISO so that's the one I'm trying to get to work. I didn't finalize the CD so I can still add an AutoExec file to it if someone can help me figure out where it is or what happened to it. I know I can just write an AutoExec in notepad, but it's litterally been decades since I last wrote an AutoExec file and don't remember how.
...thanks for any help provided.
